I’ve learned that songs choose their singers and not the other way around. I found another set of songs that were written for someone but recorded by somebody else. Thanks to Wikipedia for this info. I compiled it for you my dearest blog readers! Enjoy!
Disturbia (written by and originally for Chris Brown)
“Disturbia” was originally written by Rihanna’s then-boyfriend Chris Brown and his team which included Brian Kennedy, Rob. A and Andre Merritt, better known as the Graffiti Artizts. The track was considered to be part of the re-release edition of his album Exclusive (2007). However, after finishing the song, Brown took preference to another song, “Forever”, which later became the lead single from his re-released album titled Exclusive: The Forever Edition (2008). He felt that “Disturbia” would be better suited for a female singer and instead forwarded the song to Rihanna. When writing the song, he was inspired “to go totally left and kind of weird”.
S.O.S (supposed to be recorded by Christina Millian)
Originally, “SOS” was intended to be given to and recorded by former Def Jam Recordings label mate Christina Milian, for her third studio album, So Amazin’ (2006), but Milian turned down the song and former Def Jam CEO and chairman LA Reid offered the song to Rihanna instead. After the release of So Amazin’, Milian was dropped from Def Jam due to poor album sales.
Feel Good Time (originally written by and recorded by Beck and William Orbit )
The song was originally written by and recorded by Beck and William Orbit with the intention of being a Beck track, but after Pink wanted to cover the song, Beck gave the song to her. Beck’s vocals and a guitar were removed and replaced with Pink’s vocals.
Whataya Want From Me (Pink)
The track was originally recorded and co-written by Pink for the album Funhouse but did not make the final cut. On November 18, 2009, Lambert announced via his official website that his second single from his debut album would be “Whataya Want from Me”. The song was the second single announced before the CD was officially available to the public
Tilt Ya Head Back (Britney vs. Christina)
The producer of the song confirmed that it was originally meant for Nelly and Britney Spears, but Spears’ record label Jive Records rejected the idea, because they thought that the song was “too urban”, even though Spears wanted to do it. The second choice was Christina Aguilera, who recorded the song with Nelly in 2004.
Tell Me (demo track for Danity Kane)
This song was originally created as a demo track to test pop–R&B group Danity Kane but Diddy decided to use Christina Aguilera for the song.
Break Your Heart (was penned for Cheryl Cole)
“Break Your Heart” was one of two songs penned by Cruz for Cheryl Cole for her debut solo album, 3 Words. After Cruz did not hear back from Cole’s label about the song, he reworked the song for a male and made it the first song off his second album, Rokstarr.
Rapper Plies was originally the performer of this song, but Akon replaced his verses with those of Snoop Dogg’s for commercial reasons. Plies was arrested on July 2, 2006 for illegal gun possession while two of his people were charged with attempted murder after a shooting broke out at 238 West Nightclub in Gainesville, Florida.
West originally produced and recorded “Gold Digger” in Ludacris’s home in Atlanta for Shawnna’s 2004 debut album Worth Tha Weight and had written the chorus from a female first-person viewpoint: “I’m not sayin’ I’m a gold digger, but I ain’t messin’ with no broke niggas…” However, for reasons unknown, Shawnna passed on using the song. Not wanting to let it go to waste, West decided to keep the beat for himself and add lyrics expressed from a male’s point-of-view.
A song abandoned and not used on the Bedtime Stories album. Madonna and Shep Pettibone later gave it to former Take That singer Gary Barlow. It was not written specifically for him. He received a demo tape with thats ong including her lead and backing vocals. The unreleased Madonna demo is US copyright registration# PAu-1-889-250. The demo leaked onto file-sharing services from sources unknown around the year 2000. Madonna’s version has a strong clear vocal with bubblegum instrumentation that vaguely sounds like synth-Motown.
